One of the best fashion exhibitions I’ve seen in Montreal since the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts, is the latest masterpiece by Jean Paul Gaultier. The moment I got there, I was stunned by the atmosphere, the mysterious blue lighting and talking mannequins. They looked as if they were real people trapped in a lifeless body, disguised in beautiful dresses and costumes.
Each piece that they were wearing was a masterpiece. I was impressed by the amount of work necessary to create these outfits from a sketch into real life exhibition-quality pieces! I felt that I was transported into a different world of haute couture and that I was surrounded by the greatest people in the fashion industry. The mannequins were talking in French, and they looked and sounded so real…
There was a famous Madonna corset with the gold conical bra she wore to the Blond Ambition World Tour in 1990, the one that Jean Paul Gaultier created for her. The tour itself presents a variety of incredible costumes by the French designer who initially prepared almost fifteen hundred sketches to help Madonna define the various looks of the show. I felt so unbelievably lucky to look and to stand near that famous flesh-colored salmon satin creation! Also, there were many editorial pictures of Gaultier’s work for different fashion magazines, mostly the “Vogue”. I snapped a couple of them on my iPhone, so I can share them with you…
Enjoy :)
